What each service involves
Psychiatric Evaluation
A psychiatric evaluation at DanShalom Behavioral Clinic is a structured conversation about your symptoms, health history, medications and goals, sometimes with short screening questionnaires. Victor Onodjacha, MSN, PMHNP-BC, then shares his impressions and talks through options with you. Visits are in person in Sugar Land or by secure video for people in Texas, Idaho, Arizona or Maryland.
Medication Management
Medication management at DanShalom Behavioral Clinic means regular follow-up visits with the same provider to check how a psychiatric medication is working, watch for side effects, adjust when needed and explain what to expect. Decisions are made together with you. Visits take place in Sugar Land or by secure video for people in Texas, Idaho, Arizona or Maryland.
Brief Psychotherapy
Brief psychotherapy at DanShalom Behavioral Clinic is short-term talk therapy focused on one or two specific problems, offered alongside psychiatric care by the same provider. It may draw on supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral techniques and mindfulness-based approaches. Sessions are held in Sugar Land or by secure video for people located in Texas, Idaho, Arizona or Maryland.
MBCT
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) combines mindfulness practice with parts of cognitive behavioral therapy. Its most studied use is helping people who have had repeated episodes of depression lower the risk of another one. DanShalom Behavioral Clinic offers MBCT alongside psychiatric care in Sugar Land and by secure video for people in Texas, Idaho, Arizona or Maryland.

Questions patients ask
Which service do most people start with?
Most people start with a psychiatric evaluation. It is a conversation about what has been going on, your history and your goals, and it ends with a plan you agree on. Medication management, brief psychotherapy or MBCT may follow from it.
What is the difference between medication management and brief psychotherapy?
Medication management is regular follow-up on a psychiatric medication: how it is working, side effects and changes. Brief psychotherapy is short-term, focused talk therapy. Some people use one, some use both, and the plan is decided with you after the evaluation.
Are all four services provided by the same person?
Yes. The clinic is led by one provider, a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, and you see him at every visit, in person in Sugar Land or by secure video. If you need longer-term or specialized therapy, we help with a referral.
